What about a feature to export a list of your music library into text or HTML format?
Offline
I agree on this one.
Exporting playlists in M3U, PLS and HTML format should be a possibility by default in mC (no plugin) as it is too basic.

The reason mC does not support M3U & PLS natively is becuase these are felt to be depreciated playlist formats. Although they are widely supported, they are badly designed and offer little extensibility. mC is trying to move forward past these; that is why it is offered as a plugin only. Once more UI integration support is possible, it probably will not make a difference whether it is a plugin or not.
As far as HTML, I'm not so sure how that fits into the basic functionality of a music player, but it certainly would be awesome, I often want to share lists of my music etc. Maybe this could be incorporated into the Playlist Import/Export plugin?

Wow! Didn't realise this. Anyway if they are depreciated formats. How about using their replacement instead? Or creating a new (and open) format for anyone to use? Just a thought.
Another thought though is that .pls especially (but also m3u) is used for streaming radio. Its not really a good idea to block out these until mC has a good alternative of playing netstreams if you ask me.

I was looking around to see if there was an open xml based playlist format, and I found one called XSPF (XML Shareable Playlist Format). Have not looked very deep into what it supports, but the specs can be found at their site: http://www.xspf.org
It seems it has been endorsed by the new Yahoo! Music service:
The Windows-based client software for Yahoo! Music, which uses XSPF as its native playlist format. Says Yahoo's Ian Rogers: We're trying to push forward an OPEN standard for playlisting, because it's ridiculous that it's 2005 and we're lacking even the basic currency for media exchange due to more than a decade of short-sighted proprietary verticals by media and software companies.
An example playlist in this format can be found here.

I do agree on that, pls needs to be supported somehow for net radio. Maybe if net radio is split into a plugin (don't know if this is possible yet), it could have support for this.
edit:
Another possible format is http://gonze.com/rss_plus_time.html#chrome , although it does not look as polished.

Wow. The XML playlist seemed to be right up mC's alley. And with XML, should be fairly easy to port it in a sharable HTML format as well. (Yes, this is a cosmetic feature as mentioned above, but I like sharing my music library's contents with others.)
I'm willing to lend whatever help I can. But my experience lies with HTML and XML design layout, not in program coding. So I'm probably best called a beta tester. ![]()

The XSPF looks nice indeed, although there are only few applications supporting it atm. Maybe because version 1 was only finished in March 2005 ![]()

Yeah, xspf sounds good to me. I don't think the number of apps supporting it should really matter however, as long as the export/import of m3u still continues then it would be quite possible for users to convert playlists back and forth for external apps.

Not to mention the cool factor of mC being a pacesetter with a new technology standard!

I am still pretty interested in the whole 'Export as HTML' feature. Right now I'm having to use my mp3 tagger to do this, and it's taking hella-long to load the mp3 tags of 4000+ files.
I would rather MusikCube do it, with or without a plugin.
Any news on this?

Hmm... I believe this HTML thing has been discussed briefly? http://musikcube.com/punbb/viewtopic.php?pid=5170#p5170

Yeah, Rajiv has added HTML export to the plugin.
It should also be quite easy to add XSPF support, if anyone is interested to do that. At least the export is an ideal beginner's job; importing requires more sophisticated error checking and stuff, but it's quite straightforward as well.

I was thinking about doing the export for it, but I didn't have the time to work on the import, just export is fairly useless.

Reviving dead threads?

BTW: The latest playlist import/export plugin by Jooles still has some flaws (see my "New stuff").
