Any update info on import/export playlist?

I just discovered MusikCube.  It is wonderful.  In particular, it has great potential for managing music for my Palm TX using Softick's Card Export II to turn my TX's SD card into a "removable media drive in MC.  The one thing that would make this ideal would be to export the playlist after transferring the files so that I don't have to recreate the playlist in Pocket Tunes.

I am not, unfortunately, a programmer so Ican't offer to help.  I am happy to donate, if it would help.  Also, when the plugin is ready, I am going to review this program on some Palm forums as I think this soulution would have appeal to other Palm users.

Anyway, I was just hoping someone might have some update information.  Hope I'm not being a noob and everyone already knows the answer to this.  wink

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

Unfortunately, the original plugin author, martind, moved on to Linux (if I remember correctly), so he probably won't update it.
Maybe rajivm can make the plugin compatible witc mC1.0, because he once added HTML support...

Yea, I can try doing that, I didn't realize it was incompatible.

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

Self-quoting from here:
Export Playlist plugin will crash mC, the Import Playlist plugin works (although it will crash mC when you try to close the plugin's "about"-window).

I should actually have time to look at the code soon so I'll give it a go. No promises on anything soon though..

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

I'm FREE!!! No more errors! Goddamned MSVC and its uselessness....

I've fixed the export playlist plugin and recompiled them both against the 1.0 library. They work now. Anyone wanna host them for me? Until then, email me and I'll send you the dlls in 7z format. Only thing is it it seems determined to start up not maximised now... (or more accurately, it seems determined to start up looking like this. It's the export playlist plugin resizing and the window on startup). I'll look into that a bit later maybe.

Also, how much of a demand is there for adding the xspf format to this plugin (or any other format that they don't already do)?

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

The plugins are working great. And I did not encounter that resizing issue...

I uploaded Jooles' files here.

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

And they've been updated again. Export plugin can now export to "simple" (old style - just a list of files) as well as extended m3u, and I've added xspf because it was quick and easy to do  = ). Hopefully DocTriv can upload the new ones as well. Soon I'll be able to host things myself, but not quite yet and I'd rather someone here hosted them than a free webhost as it's easier to direct link to them.

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

Okay, here we go with the updated plugins. Well done, Jooles (although I have some problems with importing XSPF at the moment)!

Edit: Hosted files updated to Jooles' latest revision (I still have XSPF issue).
I added a small mC page to my sig where I collect some plugins etc. until the official plugin section is tidied up.

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

Really? Email me with what's going wrong and I'll look into it. It worked for me, but I'll admit I didn't exactly thoroughly test it. (Just exported my library into xspf, then imported it again and checked that all the songs had reappeared in "Now Playing").

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

Heh, no worries  = ). But yeah, DocTriv's right - the xspf importing doesn't work at all.. I've worked out why, so I should probably have that fixed by monday. Hopefully I'll have come up with a solution for the '&' problem as well... (XML uses the '&' as a special character so it can't be used as a '&'. Unfortunately some songs have '&' in the title/filename and so I've got to find a reversible way of swapping the '&' into a character that's ok in XML.) The playlists would still work I guess, but I'd rather have them fully standards compliant. I'll probably use the smiley face character. Not many people are likely to use that in a song name  = P.

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

A last question.  Is there any simple way to have an option to have the playlist generate the filenames only and not the path?  Since I want to use the playlist on a PDA after I transfer the files, the path is irrelevant and the PDA music player doesn't know what to do with it.

I realize this is not a common use for musicCube playlists and thus not much of a priority, but I am hoping this is something very simple to do.

If not, thanks anyway-- the plugins are great! big_smile

In theory, yes  = ). I wanna have a look at musikCube's tagging first though, so it may be a few days in coming

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

Okay, the point is valid - you can't share playlists with others when absolute paths are saved there (well you could edit it by hand smile).

So, should there be options for "absolute" or "relative" paths? Or more simple, an option for filenames only? Maybe a checkbox in the playlist-save-dialogue (but it seems a standard windows dialogue).

PS: Because mC saves database paths and filenames only in lower case letters, the playlist info are the same. That is no disadvantage under Windows, but maybe the real spelling could be used for it (it's the same thing with mC's "Tag from Filename"-function)?

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

At the moment it is just a standard windows "Save file" style dialog, but I was thinking of maybe adding some kind of simple "preferences" somewhere or even (though it's messy and I don't like messy solutions) just make a different version of the plugin for just the filenames.

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

The most simple solution in GUI aspects would be more filetypes to choose (although it could be a bit confusing):

Save as...
- Extended M3U Playlist - absolute paths (*.m3u)
- Extended M3U Playlist - only filenames (*.m3u)
- Simple M3U Playlist - absolute paths (*.m3u)
- Simple M3U Playlist - only filenames (*.m3u)
[then PLS, HTML, XSPF]

Update:
Other way: Simple M3U always saves only filenames, while extended saves absolute paths?

Re: Any update info on import/export playlist?

Yeah.. still messy though = \. I'll do it like that for now, and maybe come back to it later on when more of the bugs/features in mC itself have been sorted.
