Help wanted: networked music dissapears?

I have all of my music on a networked drive (mapped locally to z:), I added this drive to the sync option in mc (file -> synchronization ...), and then synchronize. I was playing my music just fine last night (and really like what the app has become), however, as I turn on my laptop today, it would not play any music, if I double clicked on it (be it artist, album, track, whatever).

So I right click, to see properties, and I get an "File not found" in the path box. Which is wrong, since the file is there, and I can navigate to it just fine in Explorer. The server which hosts the share is Windows XP SP2, and there's no strange authentication problems. My local laptops username/password has been mirrored on the server, and I never need to input pass/name.

The drive is mapped through an administrative share btw, not directly shared. Is mc not able to get the security context of the current user, and use that, for logging in? I'll assume that's what Explorer does, though I'm not sure.

Does mc have problems with music on shares? I'm no wizard on NT authentication, so I just want to be sure, before blowing alot of steam on it :-)

Re: Help wanted: networked music dissapears?

this is probably related to the following:

http://www.musikcube.com/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=907

short answer: use the network address rather than the mapped drive.  in other words, instead of z:, use the address that it's mapped to, such as \\server\mp3directory\ .

hope that helps!

Hey foot, just now I tested, and indeed, the post you link seem to describe that very issue! Strange, but thanks for the help smile

Re: Help wanted: networked music dissapears?

I'm having the exact same problem, although when I try to change or add to the paths that are synchronized, it won't let me.

My roomate's music partition is drive G, with the path '\\Eric2\music (g)' Now, when I map the drive, and go to set up the synchronization...it's shows drive G(whether or not it's my drive G or his drive G I don't know) and won't let me delete it or add to it. I've tried all the various solutions i've found on the forums and none of them worked.

The only thing that has worked was using an external program called Super Utilities to map the drive, although I can't rename the mapped drive afterwards and I"m a stickler for asthetics...so I'd like to be able do it the original way and be able to rename things and whatnot.
